The Columbus Dispatch : OU ready to consider switch to semesters

I loved the quarter system in the fall, when we were done before Thanksgiving and I had six weeks to work a part-time job before returning to school in January. It wasn’t as much fun in the spring, when most of my friends were done in May and I was still getting ready for finals.

The businesses in Athens would love the switch, though. The town in deserted in December, and many of them just closed down rather than try to struggle through what should be one of the busiest times of the year.

One question: why is OU jumping to do this when Ohio State isn’t?

One good thing: the number of Top 100 high school players committing to OSU makes me giggle in anticipation. Another good thing: taking another away from Pitt/Penn State territory makes me giggle even harder.

The Columbus Dispatch : Upper Arlington cancels activities, school because of threat
Sounds like a not-so-much-fun day at my old high school. We were happy to endulge in some relatively harmless senior pranks and mild civil disobediance — involving fliers featuring Bill the Cat, a response to new rules imposed by a new principal who started during my senior year. I’m not sure it would have occured to me or any of my friends to bring guns to school and start shooting people…

And look who’s No. 2. It’s actually not a surprise, and with Southern Cal a spot behind us, it makes the game Sept. 13 even bigger — if that’s possible.
